The story of Saltvik
From Swedish soldiers to camping guests
During World War II, Swedish soldiers were stationed in what is today the Tjurpannan nature reserve. They fell in love with the fantastic surroundings and after the end of the war, they brought their families here and pitched their tents. The more people who came, the more the need for facilities increased. The fishermen brothers Erik and Axel Karlsson, who lived in the area, set up cold water showers and dry toilets. Over the years, the number of visitors increased and the demands for comfort became ever greater, cold water was replaced by hot water, dry toilets were replaced by water toilets, electricity was drawn to the sites and a kiosk and a fast food restaurant were built. Now the street kitchen has become a restaurant and kiosk to a service store and the campsite is constantly changing with the times. After the Karlsson brothers, his nephew Dick Ulvhammar took over the baton in 1977, in recent years his son Joakim and his wife Elin have also been involved in the operation of the campsite.
